Sample Daily Schedule
The following
"sample" schedule will provide an overview of what
you'll have to look forward to when participating in Montana Cowboy School (keep
in mind that schedule and classes are subject to change at the discretion of
your instructor):
DAY ONE – Monday - Basic
Horsemanship and Ranch Sorting
 |
8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Welcome Breakfast and Overview of Instruction |
 |
9:00 a.m. to Noon Basic Horsemanship – Includes initial assignment of your
horse, grooming of your horse, feeding of your horse, watering your horse,
paddock and tack locker assignments, putting together your tack, properly
saddling your horse, basic groundwork, basic riding techniques |
 |
Noon to 1:00 p.m. Lunch |
 |
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Move cattle into pens and squeeze chutes for numbering
and sorting. Begin sorting clinic instruction at arena. Sort cattle on foot (groundwork) |
 |
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Un-tack your horse, properly stow tack, groom horse,
feed, and water your horse. |
 |
6:00 p.m. Dinner at The Arena Grill and drinks at The Watering Hole |
Balance of the evening on your own
DAY TWO – Tuesday - Ranch Sorting
and Roping
 |
7:00 a.m. to 9:00 Breakfast served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. –
Feed and check over your horse first and then head for a hearty breakfast. Time
remaining to groom and tack up your horse and check your horses paddock. Time to
warm up your horse in the arena and prepare for Ranch Sorting |

9:00 a.m. to Noon – Ranch Sorting instruction
continues. Review basic
ranch sorting instruction from the previous day, limited time sorting cattle
from the ground. Begin ranch sorting cattle on horseback. |

Noon to 1 p.m. – Lunch |
 |
1 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Basic Roping instruction clinic with roping basics. Basic
roping on the ground with roping dummies. Roping in the round pen (on foot) with
cattle. |
 |
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Un-tack your horse, properly stow tack, groom horse,
feed, and water your horse. |
 |
6:00 p.m. Dinner at The Arena Grill and drinks at The Watering Hole |
Balance of the evening on your own
DAY THREE – Wednesday -
Cattle Drive
 |
7:00 a.m. to 9:00 Breakfast
served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Feed and check over your horse first and
then head for a hearty breakfast. Time remaining to groom and tack up
your horse and check your horses paddock. Have horses saddled and ready
to load into the trailers to head for the cattle drive!. |

10:00 a.m. to Noon Cattle
Drive coursework
begins. |
 |
Noon to 1:00 p.m. Lunch |
 |
1:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. Completion
of the Cattle Drive. |
 |
5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner
(weather permitting) at the end of the cattle drive location. |
 |
7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Return to
arena and put horses up for the night and stow all tack. |
Balance of the evening on your own
DAY FOUR – Thursday - Cowboy Action
Shooting
and O-Mok-See Games
 |
7:00 a.m. to 9:00 Breakfast
served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Feed and check over your horse first
and then head for a hearty breakfast. Time remaining to groom and tack
up your horse and check your horses paddock. |

9:00 a.m. to Noon Cowboy
Action Shooting clinic. Learn gun handling safety, range safety, and
actual shooting skills. |
 |
Noon to 1:00 Lunch |
 |
1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tack up your
horse and check your horses paddock. Time to warm up your horse in the arena.
Begin working on timed O-Mok-See games. |
 |
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Un-tack your horse, properly stow tack, groom horse,
feed, and water your horse. |
 |
6:00 p.m. Dinner at The Arena Grill and drinks at The Watering Hole |
Balance of evening is on your own.
DAY FIVE – Friday - Montana Cowboy
School Competition and Celebration
 |
7:00 a.m. to 9:00 Breakfast
served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – Feed and check over your horse first and
then head for a hearty breakfast. Time remaining to groom and tack up
your horse and check your horses paddock. Time to warm up your horse in
the arena and prepare for a day of competition for "Montana Cowboy School"
Champion. |

9:00 a.m. to Noon –
Competition begins - details to follow. |
 |
Noon to 1 p.m. – Lunch at The Arena Grill |
 |
1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Competition continues
and is completed. |
 |
3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Un-tack your horse, properly stow tack, groom horse,
feed, and water your horse. |
 |
4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Graduation at The Arena Grill and The Watering Hole – Presentation and
celebration of Montana Cowboy School Champion Buckle and other award
presentations. |
 |
5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Drinks and Appetizers |
 |
6:00 p.m. Dinner Served |
Balance of evening will be at The Watering Hole (karaoke will be
available) or can be on your own.

class schedules may be modified along the way at the discretion of your
instructors and at the discretion of the prevailing weather in the area.

and modification along the way. Your final schedule will be provided at
the beginning of your week at Montana Cowboy School.
